SS-01: Spreadsheet Programs
As-Easy-As 5.5c
Trius, Inc. ASP
$75
#7057/587 [2 disks]
is a spreadsheet program that is as easy as... 1-2-3, right? Besides the clever
name, this program looks and works amazingly like Mr. Big. The worksheet size is
8,192 rows by 256 columns. There is on-line help, but the user is assumed to be
familiar with Lotus 1-2-3. This is primarily intended for people who use 1-2-3
at the office and want a compatible program for use at home. The graphics
plotting also supports the EGA and Hercules mono adapters.
Other features include spreadsheet linking; many graph types; the ability to
export graphics in PIC format for importing to word processing and DTP
programs; a structure that will allow development of Add-In's (some of which
are included on this disk); the ability to import and export dBase compatible
files; many Time, Financial and Statistical functions; string handling
functions, including lower/upper case conversion, concatenation, trimming,
string comparisons, look-up string tables and more; user-definable functions;
expansion of the macro buffer to 2k; HP LaserJet and 24-pin printer graphics
support; cell auditing, which lets you point to a cell and have all other
cells which are linked to it be highlighted; the ability to save default
settings; file merging options; graph data labels; the ability to display
negative amounts in a different color; mouse support; and much more.
Pivot!
Trius, Inc.
$20
#7057/1851
allows you to print As-Easy-As (PsL disk SS-0587) worksheets in either
portrait or landscape orientation and in the font of your choice on Epson
compatible printers. Two internal fonts are currently available. A companion
program makes it easy to create your own printer fonts.
This is an excellent package. Unlike other sideways printing programs in the
PSL, Pivot does not require you to save your file in ASCII; it will print the
WKS file. However, it does not work from within your spreadsheet program; it
is a stand-alone program. Since As-Easy-As is largely compatible with Lotus
1-2-3, it will also print some WKS files from 1-2-3 and other compatible
programs. The font design program makes it a snap to design your own fonts.
ALite 1.20r [ALITE]
TRIUS, Inc. ASP

It features 2,048 rows by 128 columns; Mathematical, Logical, Statistical,
Financial, String, User Defined, Date and Time functions; macro command
language; five types of graphs with Merge and Split Screen functions; file
merge, extract, and linking; WKS and WK1 file compatibility; data sort; data
regression and much more. Graphs can be printed on Epson compatible printers.
InstaCalc 4.0 08-93 CD
FormalSoft
$54
#7057/0836
is a 15K pop-up spreadsheet program that was PC Magazine's "Editor's Choice".
InstaCalc lets you pop up a spreadsheet in the middle of your word processing
or database program and exchange data between the program and InstaCalc.
Features include context sensitive help screens, the ability to import Lotus
1-2-3 (WKS) files, numerous built-in functions (math, stats, finance, logical,
etc), macros, data search, the ability to limit recalculation to a specified
cell range, to hide a column from view, to import multiple columns off the
screen at the same time, and to import and export data.
Other features include querying of dBase files, worksheet database querying,
goal seeking, business graphics, a powerful macro language, macro recorder,
macro editor/debugger, point and shoot file manager, the ability to sort on
nine fields at once, password file encryption, database entry forms, search
and replace, cell protection, Matrix math, EGA 43 line support, frequency
distributions, auditing, options setting sheets, EMS support, and mouse
support.
ExpressCalc
Expressware Corporation ASP
$60
#7246/1341
is a spreadsheet program with a capacity of up to 64 columns and 256 lines.
Columns can be from 1 to 75 characters wide or can be hidden from view.
Spreadsheets can link to other spreadsheets or to data files from File Express
or PC-File to extract data or add up numbers.
EZ-Spreadsheet S2.41
EZX Corporation
$?
#7246/620
is the new kid on the spreadsheet block, but is not about to be pushed around.
At 64 columns by 512 rows maximum, it has the highest capacity of the bunch.
Like the others, it has numerous built-in functions just like the big boys.
This is certainly worth a look before you pay the big bucks for 1-2-3, et al.
FreeCalc
Stilwell Software Products
$48
#7246/256
is a spreadsheet program with a maximum spreadsheet size of 250 rows by 50
columns, macros for storing repetitive keystrokes, variable-width and hidden
columns, ability to insert, delete, copy or move rows or columns, a word
processing mode, capacity to deal with larger numbers, and 8087 and 80287
support.
Particular attention has been given to the needs of the first time spreadsheet
user. For example, you can create a useful spreadsheet without any knowledge
of how to write a formula in FreeCalc. This is made possible by FreeCalc
providing you with certain basic formulas and allowing you to point to the
numbers that you want to be included in the formula. FreeCalc also includes a
limited word processor.
Free and Easy 1.11
Bale, J.M. and Bale, E.A.
$55
#4708 (SS-01)
is a free-form spreadsheet program. It starts you with a blank work area where
you can type whatever you wish. You can insert a cell at any point you would
like to enter a calculation and display the result. Math (including trig), basic
statistical, and financial functions are built in. For example, you can easily
create loan amortization and depreciation schedules. Multiple files can be
loaded at the same time. Requires 512k RAM.
GoalSeeker
Brown Bag Software
$25
#1578
is used in conjunction with your spreadsheet (Lotus 1-2-3, etc.) to
automatically find solutions with a backward-search method, also known as
"goal seeking". Goal seeking is the ability to achieve certain targeted values
in a spreadsheet by the program's varying specified variables which go into
the goal. (Note: Brown Bag does not allow the latest versions of their
programs to be distributed as shareware. The registration fee shown is for the
latest version.)
Job Oriented SpreadSheet (JOSS)
Toolkit Software Pty Ltd
$89
#7588/3855 [3 disks]
is a unique spreadsheet-like approach to data management, analysis and
reporting. A "Job Procedure" can be as complex as a combination of linked
spreadsheets, databases and reports, or a simple one-screen spreadsheet.
Job Procedures can represent many different business tasks, such as estimating
and quoting, financial modeling, accounting and business planning. JOSS allows
you to create complex items from components held within your databases, such as
for a Bill of Materials Job.
Changes, such as price changes in a bidding Job, can be applied across any
number of Jobs in seconds. Job detail can be merged with tailored
word-processing reports to produce output that matches your needs.
You can import data from LOTUS 123 2.0 sheets, dBIII files and comma and
delimited ASCII text files. You can also create dBIII compatible databases. The
information stored in these databases can be accessed interactively by the
spreadsheet system forming a powerful data processing combination.
The system comes complete with a large Macro command library to speed up the
execution of repetitive tasks. There are over 80 functions built in for use in
formulas. Requires DOS 3.+, at least 512K RAM and 2.17meg of hard disk space.
